Welcome to the 2026 Agavos International Spirits Competition.

The world’s top tequilas, mezcals, and agave spirits have been blind-tasted and evaluated in Agave Matchmaker’s inaugural 2025 competition—and the results were stunning. Congratulations to all of the medal-winning brands that rose to the top!

The highest-scoring bottles in each major category of our Taste Competition earned top honors on the 2025 “Best of Category” list—securing bragging rights and industry recognition.

Agavos is back for Year 2, and this year’s competition is gearing up to be our biggest and most competitive yet. We’ve sharpened our category structure, expanded our Mezcal and Agave Spirit divisions, and elevated every aspect of the experience.

More opportunities. More recognition. More ways for your brand to stand out in front of the industry’s most trusted agave experts.

Ready to make your mark?

Thinking about entering? There are over 3,400 tequila brands listed in the Agave Matchmaker database, and over 400 Mezcal brands in the US market. For many emerging brands, it’s difficult to stand out. The Agavos Awards was designed to give these brands needed exposure not based on the size of their marketing budget, but on the quality of their product.

An Agavos Award can distinguish you from your competition. Winners will not only be able to use the award logo in their marketing, but awarded tequilas will also receive an Agavos badge on their Agave Matchmaker product profile. Plus, we will get to know your product enough to consider featuring it in our online educational content.

Why the Agavos Awards?

Let’s face it—agave is special. It’s the only raw material grown around the world capable of producing a robust, complex, and downright delicious spirit that’s ready to enjoy straight from the still. That uniqueness deserves its own spotlight. And that’s exactly why we created the Agavos Awards: a competition designed exclusively for agave-based spirits.

The name Agavos comes from the Greek root of the word agave, which in Greek mythology symbolizes passion, desire, health, and transformation—fitting attributes for a plant that inspires some of the world’s most beloved spirits.

Do we really need another spirits competition?
Absolutely—because the Agavos Awards is different. Built on the same values of fairness, transparency, and integrity that have always defined Agave Matchmaker, this competition is crafted to honor agave in the way it deserves.

Every product is blind-tasted by judges with deep expertise and profound respect for the gifts agaves bring. Their evaluations celebrate quality, authenticity, and craftsmanship—not hype, marketing, or bottle design.

We’re not doing this alone. We’ve partnered with AMCP, the trusted organization behind the ASCOT Awards and John Barleycorn Awards, to manage entries, operations, and logistics. Their experience ensures accuracy, consistency, and a seamless process for entrants.

And here’s another game-changing feature:
Tequilas that earn an Agavos Award will receive a special award icon inside the Agave Matchmaker app and on the website—giving consumers and aficionados a clear, trusted signal of excellence.

As we head into 2026, we’re excited to continue building this new tradition:
a competition created to honor agave in all its forms and to spotlight the very best spirits shaped by this extraordinary plant.

Bottle Deadline March 20

Agavos judges are selected based on their history of tasting activity for Agave Matchmaker. Only those tasters who can articulate aromas and flavors and have shown a knack for rating all tequilas fairly and have completed at least 50 ratings are then considered for the panel.

Entries are blind-tested and graded on a 100-point scale based on a series of criteria relating to appearance, aroma, taste, and finish. Top scores in each class will advance to a championship round where they will be retasted to determine winners.

Marketing + Design entries are evaluated at random and given a score that will determine whether they are category winners. In most instances, there is no need for extensive explanations by the entrant. Work is judged on its own quality, creativity, and resourcefulness.
